Abstract Magazine, a publication exploring the lifestyle and culture of Hawai‘i, is the joint effort of writers, photographers, illustrators, industry designers, and college student designers in Honolulu. It started off as a byproduct of Inkubator Honolulu, a creative resource organization (in partnership with AIGA Honolulu) dedicated to bringing together the local design/print community and to foster real world experience for its volunteer student designers by using Abstract Magazine as a learning medium.
I had the pleasure of being apart of Abstract/Inkubator as both a student designer and a design mentor when its first issue launched and the several that followed. Each student/mentor designer were tasked with designing articles and spreads for the magazine using their own creative abilities (with resources provided by photographers/writers), often utilizing a themed 5th Pantone color in the mix.
Done as a design contributor under Inkubator Honolulu.
